The family of Army Sgt. First Class Christopher Montera, who was critically wounded in Afghanistan last month and now is recovering at Brooke Army Medical Facility in San Antonio, Texas, has established a bank account for those wishing to support San Diego Sportfishing’s own wounded warrior.
Christopher Montera, who grew up working and fishing on sport boats in Point Loma, faces a long recovery, and his family plans to spend as much time at his side as possible. That will require them to eventually have to pay for flights and other expenses. Christopher Montera faces his own expenses, too, once he recovers from surgeries and treatments and is released from care. Those wishing to contribute are asked to do so through the Christopher Montera Support Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, Account Number: 2606136782.
Montera, 32, was on his first tour of Afghanistan last month after three tours in Iraq when he was critically injured. He was securing the perimeter with another soldier, SPC Jordan Gerald Houghton when “an 82M mortar ignited a 400-pound section of C4,” his mother said. Houghton was injured, but he was able to pull Montera to safety and saved his life, April Montera said.
